Stuck app pricing model

Apps were originally priced either free, at €2,99 or €7,99.

We took apps for granted, but they become the norm for how we interact.

Fifteen years on and in our heads, very little has changed. We still expect an app to cost no more than 7,99. If the app is really really great, we reluctantly consider a subscription.

And this is becoming a problem. Because apps have become the dominant way of interacting with your digital devices.

No longer is ‘work’ limited to desktop.

And as “serious work” moves to phones and tablets, so do apps.

But “serious work”, requires “serious apps”. And serious apps require serious development team. And serious development teams cost money.

How viable is that going to be at a maximum of €7,99 per app?
