SetApps business model

Muse, one of my favorite apps, is now available on SetApp.

SetApp is a monthly subscription that gives you access to a curated list of MacOS and iOS applications. These apps are typically highly specialised and Apple-only.

SetApp provides a distribution channel for these apps.
For the (usually) independent developers making specialised tools for professional users, it means an increased chance of a chance encounter. And an increased chance of recurring revenue.

At the other side are the users. They feel they get a good deal with a single monthly price. As long as SetApp maintains a solid catalog of loved apps and a sustainable fee structure for developers, it works.

SetApp's strength lies in its curation.

But there are risks. If the catalog fails to impress, users might cancel. Developers might leave if the fees don’t support their work.

It's a business model worth watching.
