Free forever business model

Digital tools are everywhere, and the freemium model has become the norm. But lately, I’ve noticed a new label cropping up: “free forever.”

Tools like Codeium and js.design are adopting this promise. But why? Is it a reaction to the countless tools that lure users in, lock their data, and then move essential features to a premium tier?

Or is “free forever” just a new spin on “free”?

It’s a signal. A promise. But it also evokes a question - what does ‘forever’ mean? What if the investors move in, and start looking for opportunities to squeeze revenue?
